Eye In The Sky TO IMprove Vole Monitoring

Creative solutions to vole infestations

Big problems often start small. Voles, despite their diminutive size, have a voracious appetite and prolific reproductive cycle. They are particularly damaging to young stands of grass seed. Currently, Oregon growers have only a narrow window in which they can broadcast bait, and otherwise must scout and manually hand bait vole holes.

Wilbur-Ellis and AeroTract® began an exclusive partnership to change that. Newly developed aerial imagery and machine learning make it possible to pinpoint vole holes, evaluate yield in areas of infestation, determine the threshold to treat and increase efficiency of bait application. Not only will this mapping technology help prevent yield loss, it will also substantially decrease labor needs. Instead of manually scouting vast acres and hand baiting any holes they discover, growers will know exactly where to treat and have precise coordinates before stepping into the field.
